Bible questions

Is Jesus the Only Way to Heaven?

The short answer: Yes. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." He called Himself the door, the only way in. No other religion or religious leader can save anyone. Only Jesus, who is both perfect man and God, could pay for our sins.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6, KJV)

Did Jesus really claim to be the only way?

Yes, and not only once. Our April 28, 2024 sermon pointed out that it is not just what others said about Jesus. Jesus Himself claimed it. In John 10 He says "I am the door" again and again:

"I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture." (John 10:9)

There is one door, not many.

Why can't another religion save?

Because no other religious leader can pay for sin or keep anyone out of hell. As the sermon put it, Jesus is "the only Savior. There's no other religion" that can save.

Why is Jesus able to save when no one else can?

Because Jesus is both perfect man and perfect God.

  1. Perfect man. A perfect man had to qualify to provide salvation. Jesus was fully man, lived a perfect life, and had no sin whatsoever. So He qualified to die on the cross of Calvary for our sins.
  2. Perfect God. If Jesus were only a perfect man, the sermon explained, He could have died for only one other person. Because He is God, His death paid for every one of us.

Even the apostle Paul called himself the chief of sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). Every one of us needs a Savior who had no sin of His own.

How does a person go through the door?

By believing on Jesus and receiving Him. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

You don't stand outside looking at a door. You decide to go through it. "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." (John 1:12)

Isn't it unfair to say there's only one way?

God made a way when He didn't have to. "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." (John 3:17) As the sermon said, if a person rejects Jesus, "you cannot blame Jesus. He did everything to keep you out of hell."
